Dubai: "ANYTHING for charity." Kapil Dev is only glad to contribute to the less fortunate. The cricket legend confirmed to MiD DAY yesterday that his 1983 World Cup blazer and a bat signed by all 14 members of that victorious team will go under the hammer for charity in Dubai on Sunday.

As reported by gulfnews.com on Wednesday, the Auction of Hope, a joint initiative by the Dubai Sports Council and Right to Play, will attempt to raise funds to support the initiative of Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on students' development of health and mind in schools.

"Why hold on to stuff when you can help improve the lives of others. Also, you know that this will be treasured by the person who buys it. If some people can smile because of this, I have no problems giving away stuff for charity," said Kapil.

Other collectibles to be auctioned are Muhammad Ali's autographed boxing gloves, Pele's 1962 jersey, Diego Maradona's jersey and a tennis ball signed by legend Roger Federer.
