The construction on the skywalk at Bandra (E) is yet to begin, but it has already caught the eye of advertisers. The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has already received proposals worth Rs 25 crore for advertising rights on the stretch between Kalanagar and Kherwadi.

Ratnakar Gaikwad, metropolitan commissioner, said, "There has been a tremendous response from advertisers. Adlabs has already shown interest for advertising rights on the proposed skywalk." This stretch is an extension of the Bandra (E) skywalk from Anant Kanekar Marg towards Kalanagar.

Although the stretch between Kalanagar and Kherwadi is barely 100 m, advertisers are lured because of the Western Express Highway over which the skywalk will be built.

Any advertising here is bound to grab the attention of the thousands commuting via the WEH every day. Construction on the new skywalk is expected to commence soon.

Good precedent

The MMRDA has already sold advertising rights on the existing 1.3-m skywalk to Adlabs for Rs 79 crore for a period of 10 years. The skywalk was built at a cost of Rs 13.63 crore and was inaugurated in June. The money earned from selling advertisement rights will be used to construct more skywalks.
