Pune: The Pune Crime Branch arrested three members of a gang and recovered 166 mobile phones, 122 imported watches, LCD monitors and automobile parts.
According to the police, the accused were professional thieves and were 'specialists' in stealing electronic gadgets by breaking in to mobile shops mostly in areas like Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The police came into action following a tip-off and some information from a convicted prisoner at Yerawada central prison.
Crime Branch chief Rajendra Singh said, "The accused sold the stolen gadgets in Rajasthan, Amravati and even in Pune." Adding further, he said, "With these arrests, the police have solved a total of eight cases of shop thefts in 2008 in Pimpri-Chinchwad."
