RAGS TO RICHES: Nitin Vare, the chartered accountant. PIC/SNEHA SHAH |
According to Nitin, who hails from a small village near Panchgani, his family's miserable condition inspired him to work hard.
"I was born in Mumbai, but we had to go to our village after the 1993 riots," said Nitin, who did his primary schooling in the city. Life for the Vares was never easy. Their house in the village burnt down and was soon followed by their father's death. Their mother had to work in farms.
"But my parents ensured that we (Nitin and his three siblings) got basic education," added Nitin.
Back to Mumbai
"After our father's death, my elder brother brought me to Mumbai. He encouraged me to study. As I had scored well in Std X, getting admission in Ruparel was not a problem. But we were short of funds," said Nitin.
So, he started working as an office boy with a shipping company.
Nitin's employer recognised his potential. He not only taught him how to use computers, but also applauded his hard work by making him the administrator.
Forced into CA
But even then, Nitin had never imagined he would become a chartered accountant some day. He said, "A friend forcefully enrolled me in the course. He even paid the fees. Though I have repaid the money, I will always be indebted to him."
Nitin also acknowledged his younger brother's help. "He supported me emotionally and monetarily when I was on study leave for months for the CA exams," he said.
Ironically, Nitin's mother does not understand the magnitude of his achievement. "She is more interested in how much I scored. She does not know that clearing the CA exam at one go is like a merit rank in itself," said Nitin.
Nitin now wants to study further and become an IAS officer. He hopes to earn well to take care of his family.
