Bangalore: Actor Sudeep has finally paid compensation to the family of a man killed by his motorbike.
The Kannada movie star has sent a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh to the grieving family after MiD-Day carried a report highlighting their plight.
Shivananjaiah was killed on July 12, when Sudeep's driver, allegedly drunk, crashed his Yamaha Cruz into him.
Sudeep, who hadn't met the family of Shivananjaiah, had claimed he had paid compensation within 15 days of the accident. He had also stated the bike belonged to his driver and not to him.
Broke down
Shivananjaiah's son Shankar broken down on hearing the claim that he had already been paid. "Sudeep was prompted by the MiD DAY report to help the family," Sudeep's friend Manjunath Gowda told MiD DAY. "The family must accept the money and close the matter."
After the report was published, Sudeep's mother reportedly intervened and persuaded him to pay. She had promised to resolve the problem after Sudeep's birthday celebrations. The celebrations took place last week.
"She has kept her word, and we are grateful to her," said Shankar. The family will get the cash in hand after the legal formalities of closing the case are competed.
