FOUL PLAY: Sunil Pai, deputy dean of Sion Hospital, alleged that employees sold nearly 1,000 fake admission forms everyday between 2001 and 2005. REPRESENTATION PIC

Four months after a scam involving the sale of duplicate admission forms at the Sion Hospital came to light, police have been unsuccessful in making any arrests. On May 6, Sunil Pai, deputy dean of the hospital, had filed a complaint about the racquet. He alleged that employees from the registration and admission department sold fake admission forms between 2001 and 2005 and made around Rs 30 to 40 lakh.

The Sion police have not been able to arrest any person involved in the scam, as they are awaiting reports from the document verification department. According to the Sion police, the reports are expected only by November. "There is a possibility of more delays. We cannot arrest anyone till we get the reports," said a police officer.

The hospital staff sold at least 1,000 forms a day costing Rs 10/- each at the counter. The scam was unearthed in 2005 after a patient complained that he was denied admission because his form was duplicate.

The health department initiated an enquiry and corroborated the complaint. The hospital then filed a case of cheating and forgery against Sayeeda Shaikh, Sameer Shaikh, Sunil Ghadi, Paresh Kerkar, Prashant Roy and Swapnil Parab, all employees of the registration and admission department.
