In the past 10 years alone, digital technologies have brought us visual effects that would have been too expensive, too dangerous or just outright impossible. Target- The Lakshaya is one such Marathi film, which makes use of these digital intermediate (DI) technologies, where one can manipulate moving images.
The film is produced by Jagdish Unecha and directed by Vivek Gore and Rajesh Kolan. The story, which depicts the journey of five youths to fulfill a social cause is written by Rahul Mankar. The star cast includes Sanjay Narvekar, Ankush Chaudhari, Swapnil Joshi, Sidharth Jadhav, Tajaswini Pandit and Smita Gondkar.
"Presently, the film's shooting is taking place at an exotic location near D S K Vishwa at Dhairi, off the Pune-Sinhagad highway. The film will also be shot at the Bhimashankar hills and is expected to be released by January 2009," said producer Unecha.
Costly technique
According to Unecha, DI is a costly technique. "We are spending Rs 20 lakh by which we may technically be able to compete with Bollywood films. DI is the process of digitising a motion picture and manipulating color and other image characteristics to change the overall look. "DI is done at a higher resolution and with greater color fidelity," he informed. Walt Disney was the first one to make use of this technology.
Value addition
Target's cinematographer, Sandeep Patil who is a Film and Television Institute of India product said that, DI will make a good value addition for the film when it will get the final touch. Patil who was also a cinematographer for Saeed Mirza's, Savdhan Meri Jaan, said, "I am glad about this film that has used the DI process. With the help of digital tools one can have a finer control over color and area of images. This attracts the viewers."
