Destruction: On September 13, five bomb blasts killed 30 people and injured over a hundred in Delhi.(Above) Amir Safdar Nagori, general secretary of SIMI | Four days after the Delhi encounter, an investigating team has traced three calls made by three terror suspects to a remote hotel in Mangalore. The three suspects, all final year MBBS students, have been using the code names Mubarak, Muzzaffar and Baba Jaan. The calls were made just before the blasts in Delhi.
A senior police officer in Mangalore disclosed that investigators ran a check of all recent telephone calls made by the terror suspects to New Delhi. Three calls were traced to Udipi, near Mangalore. The police have learnt that the STD calls were made from a public call booth at Broadway Hotel in Udipi City, which is near the police headquarters. New Delhi blast suspect Mohammed Saif, arrested in the encounter, confirmed that he had visited the area.
Investigators are questioning the hotel staff about the details of other suspects. Police suspect members of the sleeper module could have been holed up there. The investigating team believes that the three suspects could have supplied bombs to the sleeper cell from Azamgarh.
Bombs
Police sources said that the bombs used in the blasts could have been made at Kasargod, south of Mangalore. This town is also under the scanner for illegal money transfer used to fund terror activities. Intelligence reports have indicated that fake currency and gold was being smuggled from Bhatkal in Karnataka to Kasargod. It was distributed to cities like Hosdurg, Khangad and Calicut. In 2007, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the assembly that more than Rs 1,000 crore is routed through hawala syndicates, many having links with anti-national forces.
Many other revelations came to light after SIMI's Amir Safdar Nagori's right-hand-man Naser was questioned by intelligence officials.
According to copies of transcripts available with MiD DAY, Nagori discussed terror attacks in Bangalore and Mangalore. Goa is on the hit list as well. The two mentioned names of 50 associates who could still carry out the attacks. |
