UPSET: Bhaiyalal Bhotmange

Bhaiyalal Bhotmange, whose family was killed in the Khairlanji massacre in 2006, vows to fight till the very end. "Though I am satisfied with the court's verdict, I also want the acquitted to be punished. I will fight till the end," Bhaiyalal told MiD DAY after the verdict yesterday.

Bhaiyalal is upset that the court dropped atrocity charges against all the accused, including the three who were acquitted. He says he will move the High Court and write to the state government. He plans to visit Khairlanji on September 29, the second death anniversary of his family. "Khairlanji haunts me even today. I lost everything there and want to construct a memorial at the burial spot," he said. Around 150 people are expected to accompany Bhaiyalal to Khairlanji. Dilip Uke, the NCP social worker who sheltered Bhaiyalal for the last two years, said, "We are pleased with the outcome."

On September 29, 2006, four Dalits - Surekha Bhaiyalal Bhotmange, her daughter Priyanka and sons Sudhir and Roshan - were beaten to death over a land dispute in Khairlanji.
