Munaf's reverse menace has Delhi on the hop

VADODARA:

Day Two of Rest of India's Irani Trophy fixture against Ranji Trophy champions Delhi belonged to a man from a nondescript place called Ikhar.

Munaf Patel bagged four Delhi wickets to bring his team back in contention for the prestigious title after an illustrious Rest of India batting line-up could muster only 252 in their first innings on Day One.

Patel used the reverse swing to good effect and picked up the wickets of opener Akash Chopra (42), Virat Kohli (4), Mithun Manhas (4) and Ashish Nehra for a naught to restrict Delhi for a measly 177. And, having gained a 75-run first innings lead, Rest batsmen, it appears, will only pile on the agony for the street-smart Sehwag.

In their second essay, Rest had crawled at 2.75 runs an over to 99 runs when stumps were drawn yesterday. S Badrinath (33), who walked in at the fall of opener Wasim Jaffer's (21) wicket, is keeping Rahul Dravid company, who is batting on 34.

Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya was all praise for Patel's effort. "He bowled magnificently. He had a gameplan in place and he executed that to perfection. It was a thoroughly disciplined performance. Also, he got the ball to reverse pretty early and that I think did the trick," said Dahiya.
