Atif Ameen was killed in an encounter in Delhi

After the Mumbai police arrested Mohammad Sadiq Shaikh and other members of Indian Mujahideen, it has been revealed that Atif Ameen, who was shot dead in the Delhi encounter had visited Mumbai with his associates in 2006.

Atif and his accomplices had stayed in Mumbai for a week and had met Sadiq Shaikh. The police are now verifying the purpose of Atif's visit to the city.

The group had been put up at a rented place in Sewri, arranged by one Abu Rashid, who also hails from Sanjerpur in Azamgarh.

New twist

While Rashid's family lives in Mumbai, he had come to the city three years ago, and runs an optical shop at Andheri.

According to his brother, Abu Saad, who also lives in Sanjerpur, Rashid did his BCom from Delhi and left for Mumbai. He completed his diploma in optometry and started a shop.

Abu Saad said, "Rashid told me that Atif and his associates had come to Mumbai in 2006, and that he had helped them find a rented place at Sewri. Atif had told him that they had come for studies, as they could not get admission in Delhi University."

Surrender

The police are on the look out for Abu Rashid. However, his family members in Sewri are being questioned.
Meanwhile, Abu Saad said that Rashid has left from Sanjerpur on Tuesday, and will surrender in Mumbai.

Confirming that Atif had visited Mumbai in 2006, Rakesh Maria, the joint commissioner of police, crime, told MiD DAY, "We are investigating the reason for their stay in the city, and have been questioning many people in the case."
