Ghatkopar heist: Maid, watchmen detained

The Ghatkopar police detained eight persons on Monday night who they suspected to be behind the housebreaking and theft of valuables of Rs 8.77 lakh. 

Between 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm, unidentified persons broke open the door of a businessman Kaushik Ray (32) in Vidhyavihar and stole cash and jewellery totaling Rs 8.77 lakh. When the owners of the house returned, they called up the police.

The police detained their housemaid and watchmen, local suspected criminals among others for questioning and fingerprints.

According to the Ghatkopar police, Ray (32), a resident of Skyline Oasis complex had returned from Dubai and later went to meet his friend.

His wife went to watch a movie, when the criminals broke open their door looted the valuables and cash.

In the evening, Ray received a call about the house breaking and later reached home and filed a complaint at Ghatkopar police station.

Rs 1.55 lakh, Jewellery and five watches worth Rs 7.22 lakh were stolen from the house. The businessman suspects that more money and jewellery has been looted, but yet to ascertain the same.
