Ramkishan Yadav (40), a Central Reserve Police Force head constable, shot himself dead while on duty at CRPF Group Centre in Yelahanka today morning. Ramkishan used one round from his AK 47 rifle to kill himself and battalion authorities made abortive attempts to save his life, but in vain. According to sources, Ramkishan, who served the department for about 23 years, took this extreme step unable to bear the alleged harassment by some of his senior officers. The police and the top CRPF officials visited the spot and the investigations are on. Body has been shifted to Ambedkar Medical College for postmortem. The police and the CRPF department have informed Ramkishan's family, which is in Haryana. The CRPF recorded more than 60 cases of suicide in 2007-08. Around five fratricides have already taken place this year. According to experts, the main causes of suicides and shootouts among the security forces are long duty hours, long periods of separation from families, and not being granted leave due to them. All of these lead to high levels of stress.
