Prominent citizens are convinced Andhra MP who assaulted a bank manager must be arrested right away

The actions of the Congress politician who slapped a Hyderabad bank manager has provoked much outrage in Bangalore.

M Jagannatham of Nagarkurnool, a Congress MP, was caught on camera assaulting a manager of the Andhra Pradesh Grameena Vikas Bank over a supposed delay in approving loans to SC/ST applicants. Leading Bangaloreans are unanimous he should be punished.

H T Sangliana, Former MP: "If the lawmakers themselves do such things, they encourage rowdy elements to grow. No explanation will help. He has to be punished according to the law."

S R Powar, secretary, State Bank of Mysore Employees Union: "So far, such incidents have not taken place in our bank. But if any one, whether a citizen or a VIP, assaults a public servant during office hours, he should be arrested immediately."

Justice M F Saldanha: "No one is above the law and designation does not matter. Action can be taken against the MP because he has slapped a public servant on duty."
