By: MiD DAY Correspondent

The examination monster has struck again, this time claiming the life of a first-year student of Bharati College in the Janakpuri area of west Delhi.

The 18-year-old student, Manisha (name changed), a resident of Vikas Nagar, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of a room in her college on Sunday. The incident reportedly came to light on Sunday afternoon after the guard found a room on the second floor of the college locked from inside. He broke open the door to discover the girl's body hanging from the ceiling fan.

A suicide note that was recovered revealed that the girl was depressed. "I am very depressed due to my ongoing exams. I am not being able to perform well academically and am hence taking this step. Pressure from my family and friends has been mounting and I cannot take it any longer," the note said. Police officials said that the last line of the note was dedicated to her parents requesting them to forgive her for taking this step.

The police said a PCR call was received regarding the incident at about 4 pm. "The 18-year-old deceased was a correspondence student at Bharati College. There was a function at the college on Sunday. The function continued from 9 am till about 3 pm on the ground floor of the institute. Nobody came to know when she went upstairs and hung herself. Her body was later discovered in Room No 51 on the second floor of the college," a police official said.

The police said that the girl's parents were informed immediately and her body was sent to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital at Hari Nagar for post mortem. Her father is working with the DDA and her mother is a housewife.
