Arun Patil, chairperson of the R C Patil foundation, the organisers of a T20 tournament in Bhiwandi, said the four cheerleaders, who performed during the final match on Sunday, were Russian aerobic performers based in the UK.
People are jealous and they are unnecessarily raking up these issues," said Patil.
The match attracted a crowd of over 15,000 people, who cheered as the dancers entertained them with performances to Bollywood numbers.
"They left for the UK on Tuesday. A friend there helped me rope them in for our finals, which I had planned on a grand scale as an IPL fixture. None of the girls have anything to do with the IPL," said Patil.
Patil said neither the fans nor the organisers had anticipated the huge turnout at the finals. Celebrities like Ajay Jadeja, Murali Karthik, Bappi Lahiri, Bhiwandi Mayor Javed Dalvi and Thane Minister Ganesh Naik were part of the four-day tournament. All these guests, except Jadeja were present for the match on Sunday.
On Monday, a case was registered against Patil at the Narpoli police station for not taking prior police permission for the event. He was also accused of getting foreigners to perform at the venue without getting necessary clearances.
