Mohammed Qudratullah, principal of Poona College, who was on election duty, says he did not campaign for BSP candidate
Mohammad Qudratullah, the principal of Poona College of Arts, Commerce and Science, was suspended on Wednesday for violating the model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha polls, by allegedly campaigning for BSP candidate D S Kulkarni on April 4.
Qudratullah, being deputed on election duty, could not campaign for any candidate, according to the rules.
Qudratullah told MiD DAY that he was being framed. "I was only attending a religious function. I was not aware that BSP candidate D S Kulkarni would also be attending. I would not have attended, had I known that a candidate was attending. Someone, who wanted to settle scores with me, took photographs that day and lodged a complaint with the Election Commission," explained Qudratullah.
The complainant Sayyad Abdul Kadar, is a former employee of Poona College, who opted for voluntary retirement in 2006. Kadar's complaint to the Election Commission on April 14 reported that Dr Qudratullah gave a speech on April 4 in favour of D S Kulkarni.
Fatima Allana, chairperson, Yateemkhana and Madrasa Anjuman Khairul Islam, which runs Poona College, issued Qudratullah's suspension orders on Wednesday. Deputy Collector Manjusha Miskar, who is in charge of Kasewadi, Mutha, Kondhwa, Khurd and Koregaon areas, said, "The college management has ordered a disciplinary enquiry against Qudratullah. Once their report comes to us, we should be able to say if there is any truth in the allegations by Kadar." |
