Top scores and a car as a gift from their coaching class. The day couldn't get better for state IIT-JEE toppers Pararth Shah and Priyank Pareikh

It was a double delight for Pararth Shah and Priyank Pareikh. Their joy knew no bounds when they learned that they had topped the state in the IIT-JEE 2009, the results of which were announced yesterday. Indeed, celebrations did not end there.



IITians Pace, an Andheri-based coaching class that trained the duo for the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), has decided to gift them a Nano each.

Staying up all night and missing out on movies clearly seems to have paid off for Shah, who topped the JEE from Maharashtra and Pareikh, who came a close second. (While Shah ranked fourth on the list of All India toppers, Pareikh ranked sixth.)    

Deserving students 

Praveen Tyagi, managing director, IITians Pace, said, "We have decided to give Shah and Pareikh a Nano each for doing us proud. Or, we may fund their education. The choice is left to the toppers."

"The students deserve the best as they are among the top 10 rankers. I wanted to gift them a Nano as it is affordable during these times of recession. They will remember me as long as they have the car."  

Though the students thought that their professor was kidding, they were definitely excited at the thought of having their own cars. There's just one hitch/ "We don't know how to drive," said Shah and Pareikh in unison.

Winners take all

The coaching class is only keeping up its tradition of rewarding toppers. "In 2002, we gifted a Santro to one of our toppers and a laptop to another," said Tyagi.

Getting to the top
Pararth Shah, a student from A V Patel Junior College,Vile Parle, wants to pursue computer engineering from IIT Powai. The best time to study, according to Shah, is at night. "I didn't expect to make it to the top 5, but I was confident I would be among the top 10. I give the credit of my success to my family and my coaching class," said Shah.

Contrary to Shah, Priyank Pareikh is an early riser. "I prefer to study early in the morning and go to bed early. I avoid watching films, instead I watch TV sometimes to relax," said Pareikh.
