Police constable Mayur Suyawanshi (24) from Yerawada police station narrowly escaped death when Amol Pille (28), a history-sheeter, attacked him with a chopper during a religious procession on Saturday.
Suryawanshi was attacked because he tried to arrest Pille, who was barred from being in the city. Though Suryavnshi didn't receive any serious injuries, he suffered cuts in his right hand as he blocked the blow of chopper while he was assaulted.
Pille was later arrested under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly trying to kill constable Suryawanshi and Section 333 for deterring a public servant from his doing his duty.
"There are many serious crimes registered against Pille and he's also been barred from entering the city. That's the reason Suryawanshi tried to arrest him," said Investigating officer V K Pawar. When contacted, Suryawanshi refused to comment on the incident. |
