Chief Minister Ashok Chavan slams the Shiv Sena, trumpets his achievements and foretells victory

Are you building the Shivaji-on-sea statue to undermine the Shiv  Sena-BJP?
Is Shivaji Maharaj the copyright of the Shiv Sena? Does the Shiv Sena own Shivaji Maharaj? He is the deity of Maharashtra and people respect and honour him. If we build a national monument befitting a hero, which will be national landmark, is that wrong?

But you're doing this when the state has a Rs 1.5 lakh crore debt. And you want to spend Rs 350 crore on the memorial?
Debts have no relevance to the memorial since this has national importance. If the Shiv Sena had announced the memorial, you think they would have criticised it!

Is there something you are particularly proud of?
My achievement as an industry minister, and then as CM the success in controlling law and order issues and terrorism in just eight months.

Kay ho! The CM said the Shivaji memorial would be   a national monument and the Sena had no business criticising the plan

Rate yourself as a chief minister?

People have to rate my performance.

Are you better than your predecessor?
Again, the people of Maharashtra have to judge. I can't.

Despite innumerable projects and requisite funds, infrastructure remains poor.
There is a lot of difference in what Mumbai was five years ago and now. Consider projects like the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the monorail and metro rail projects, road-widening projects.

Yet, BWSL was delayed and there were cost overruns.
Fact remains that the Cong-ress government completed the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

You were in favour of the NCP alliance, but you later said that they should merge with the Congress?
All I said was if the alliance is not formed, it should not lead to splitting of votes.

If the Congress is voted to power and Vilasrao Deshmukh is made the chief minister again, will you work under him?
Where is the question of if and but?

In case of a hung Assembly, will you take MNS's help?
We will come to power on our own.

Do you agree to the policy of giving tickets to the sons and daughters of the leaders?
There are sons, daughters and daughter-in-laws in all parties. Yet, a majority of those nominated are party workers.

But Sunil Deshmukh was a good minister and a public representative too, yet the Congress allotted the ticket to the President of India's son.
A decision has been taken by the party and we have to go along with it.
