Bal Thackeray's grandson is a hit at MNS function

Jaideep Thackeray fuels controversy with visit to MNS visarjan event in Kalanagar

An MNS visarjan event in Kalanagar, Bandra, last week had a surprise visitor Jaideep Thackeray (25), the son of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's estranged son Jaidev.

Incidentally, Kalanagar is home to the Thackeray family.

Said an onlooker at the event and an MNS member, "Jaideep said he came to the event only because it was organised by his friend, but we know that his ties with the party have been a subject of discussion ever since he expressed interest in politics.

He was very active during the function and handed out gifts to the needy."

Non-commital

However, even as Jaideep's presence at his grandfather and uncle's rival party event fuelled furious whispers, he maintained that he hasn't made any decision about the party he wishes to join. "When I know, the media will know," he said.

It's all in the family: Jaideep Thackeray, son of Jaidev Thackeray, attends an MNS visarjan event in Kalanagar, Bandra and MNS chief Raj Thackeray's wife Sharmila chats with Jaidev and his wife during a function at Shivaji Park last year.

Despite the denial, the visit has added fodder to the rumour mills, especially since this isn't the first time Raj's party has received support from the Jaidev quarter.

The latter stood up for his cousin when Raj broke away from the Sena in 2005. According to popular opinion, Jaideep's moves have his father's approval.

Do You Know?

Jaideep, like his grandfather, is creatively inclined and has worked as an art director and graphic designer.

He has also worked on some projects with Bollywood photographer Avinash Gowariker. His father Jaidev is Bal Thackeray's second son.
