The Mysore city police have arrested Chandregouda, a civil contractor, who mowed down four hotel employees on Friday night, for rash and negligent driving.
"We have given him bail, with a condition that he should appear before the court tomorrow and apply for a bail again," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime and traffic), Rajendra Prasad.
Ruling out the possibility of drink driving, Prasad said that they have collected his urine and blood samples and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory for tests.
"If the report is positive, we will deal with him firmly," he assured.
But the victims say that he might have been drunk as at the time of the incident, he was returning from a private party.
Lost control
However, Chandregouda denied it. He said, "I was returning from my sister's house and lost control of the vehicle and hit them."
Chandregouda also argued with the police when he was being taken to a hospital to give urine and blood samples.
The incident occurred late on Friday night when some hotel workers of Grand Mourya were returning from their duty. Chandregouda hit the car at the footpath of Madikeri road and four of them got seriously injured.
The injured have been admitted to Krishnarajendra Government hospital. |
