The police maintain that the serial blasts accused is missing, but also add that this very reason is good enough to secure his arrest
People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Abdul Nasar Madani, who is an accused in the Bangalore blast case, has been shown as absconding by the officials of Bangalore Central Crime Branch (CCB) in an additional charge sheet submitted before the first additional chief metropolitan magistrate.
It may be recalled that a team of officials from Bangalore visited Ernakulam to question Madani last week. However, it was not clear whether they actually questioned him.
According to a senior investigator, showing Madani as absconder is a good reason to secure his arrest. Madani was one among the 32 accused in the 2008 serial blasts case.

The city police are taking all precautionary measures to secure Madani's arrest.
But his arrest could rake up law and order problems, since he heads a political party, and has wide support from across the state, said a senior police officer.
Madani's advocate Akbar Ali, who came to Bangalore seeking a copy of the charge sheet returned disappointed. "I had applied for the copy two days ago, and still haven't got it. I don't understand why the police are maintaining this secrecy, even though we are entitled to the documents," he said.
The CCB officials have taken Abdul Jabbar alias Anoop, in custody for interrogation. Jabbar was arrested and booked under the Explosives Substances Act.
His questioning will strengthen the chargesheet, say the police.
The CCB has filed an additional chargesheet against six accused, including Madani and P B Sabeer of Ernakulam, Shohib alias Faizal of Paapinchari in Kerala, Sarfuddin of Kannur, Thajuddin of Ernakulam, and Abdul Khadar of Kodagu in connection with 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case.
Along with additional chargesheet, additional evidence has also been submitted to the Court in respect to two already chargesheeted persons T Nazeer alias Nasir and Safaz. Out of these above six chargesheeted persons, four are in judicial custody. In all, 32 persons have been chargesheeted so far.
It may be recalled that in connection with the Bangalore serial blasts on July 25, 2008 at different areas of Bangalore, nine cases were registered, and are being investigated by the CCB. The commissioner was unavailable for comment.
| Madani's Involvement | | The ATS in their additional chargesheet have shown how Madani was present in a meeting with T Nazeer and others to discuss the modalities of the Bangalore serial blasts at a ginger farm in Lakkeri estate, Madapura, Coorg district.
Nazeer who had conducted a thorough recce had met Madani at a rented house in Ernakulam to inform him about the plan. Nazeer had received around 2500 Saudi riyals through Hawala to execute the plan. The ATS have collected corroborative evidence against Madani, which proves his involvement.
Officers who are working on the case said that in the present situation Madani could not even get an anticipatory bail since it is a sensitive case. | |
