Kiran Bajaj doesn't believe in lip service. No idle ribbon-cutting, strong speeches, and charity events instead she prefers to work at the grass roots level in villages across India. For International Women's Day, Kiran managed to host seven shows of Stree Mukti Sanghatna's Beti Aayi Hai in several schools, colleges and streets in UP villages.
She shares her story I've had a spiritually strong upbringing with great stress on the right values.
We were taught to respect both sanskruti (culture) and prakruti (nature). As I grew up, I realised that as our society progressed materially, we were also growing increasingly irresponsible.

Kiran Bajaj with Jyoti Mhapsekar | We are abusing nature and this is what led me to start Paryavaran Mitra, an NGO focusing on creating environmental awareness and Shabdam, another NGO to promote Hindi lierature.
If women are to progress in this country, it is important to totally reform our mindset and focus on some basic questions: Are we educating our daughters so that they find more educated grooms? What are we doing to help our daughters become independent?
After hearing about so many dowry deaths and domestic violence cases, we are desperate to get our girls married off to anyone well-to-do.
Spiritual strength
My parents were spiritual and my family reformist. We believe in Gandhi's teachings: simple living and high thinking. And I think that is the answer to all our country's problems. |
