In a shocking incident, a Resident Medical Officer of a private hospital in Vashi has been arrested on charges of drugging and raping a patient in the ICU of the hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Dhude told MiD DAY that Dr Vishal Bane has been charged under Section 376 D of the IPC.
He has been sent for a medical examination and the report has confirmed rape, informed Dhude.
Dr Vishal Bane was arrested after he allegedly raped Priyanka Shah, who was admitted to Lotus Hospital after she fell unconscious at a dandiya event on Saturday
The incident occurred when the victim, Priyanka Shah (name changed), was admitted to Lotus Hospital after she fell unconscious at a dandiya event on Saturday.
Priyanka was attending a Navratri function with her family at the Modern College Ground in Vashi, when she fell ill.
She complained of dehydration and soon fell unconscious. Her family rushed her to Lotus Hospital where she was treated.
"We were enjoying the night at the Navratri function when Priyanka (30) complained of dizziness. We took her to the hospital and after the initial treatment she was fine.
However, after a while she complained of suffocation and her blood pressure dropped drastically. She was moved to the ICU," said Priyanka's brother Rajesh Shah (name changed).
While she was in the ICU, Bane came to the ward at 3.30 am and asked her to undress, as he wanted to conduct a body check-up.
Priyanka alleges that the doctor had given her strong sedatives that rendered her unconscious.
The doctor took advantage of the situation and raped her. She narrated the entire episode to her husband in the morning and a subsequent complaint was registered with the police.
According to the FIR, when Bane allegedly raped Priyanka, another patient was also present in the ward.
However, the patient was fast asleep. The police are investigating what sedatives were administered to Priyanka before she became unconscious.
