Yes. And it comes attached with a fancy MBA degree. Here's how this cargo company manager duped a firm of Rs 27 lakh
THE MRA Marg Police station have arrested Rakhi Jhandani, a 28 year-old MBA graduate, working as manager in a cargo company on Wednesday for cheating. She was arrested after absconding for over two months.
 Jhandani was working as manager of audit and finance in Tulsidas Kshimji Company at Flora Fountain for the last one and a half years, and was authorised to make vouchers and issue cheques to clients' firms. Taking advantage of the opportunity, she hatched a plan to cheat the company. Her modus operandi was simple: she opened a bank account in Nagpur in the name of Air Cargo Global Logistics, which was similar to that of a company that was dealing with Tulsidas Kshimji. Every month, a payment of a couple of lakhs was made via cheques. While the real name of the Air Cargo Global Logistics includes 'Ltd.' in it, Jhandani issued several cheques in the name of the fake account she had created.
"Around Rs 27 lakh were transferred over several months. In June, we received a complaint from the company of non transfer of funds into their account. We approached Rakhi, who denied having any hand in it, and went missing," said Jay Menon, vice president of Tulsidas Kshimji Company.
A police complaint was registered and it was found that the address she had mentioned in the company documents was fake. A police team was sent to Nagpur where the fake account was investigated, stated an official.
While Jhandani claimed to live in a women's hostel at Matunga, police found that her residence was in Thane.
Officials suspect that she may have sought the help of others. Senior police inspector Sanjeev Kokil of MRA Marg police station confirmed the arrest. |
