After raping his 12-yr-old stepdaughter, man burns wife for telling on him
Very often in fairy tales the stepfather is the villain. For Priyanka Gupta, a 12-year-old girl living in Nalpada, Thane, fiction turned to reality when her stepfather was her real life desperado and raped her yesterday morning. However, the ghastly story came to a justified end this morning when Vartak Nagar police officials in Thane nabbed the father accused of raping the Std VII student and burning his wife at 1 am.
On Monday morning Premchandra Gupta, an auto driver returned home after his night shift. Reaching home, he raped his daughter in front of his wife and then tried to immolate his wife when she protested the rape.
Police reports said that Premchandra had just finished his night round and returned home to Nalpada when he found his wife Savitri sleeping and raped his daughter Priyanka, who opened the door for him. Hearing the screams of her daughter, Savitri woke up and fought with Premchandra but to no avail, as he beat her up too.
The investigating officials added that Premchandra was Priyanka's stepfather. It was learnt that after the death of her first husband, she had remarried.
After the incident, Priyanka was unconscious and Savitri informed her relatives of the appalling act committed by her husband. Furious for leaking the news to others, Premchandra brought kerosene and burnt her and fled the scene of the crime.
In an effort to save herself, Savitri jumped into a nearby nullah and was admitted to a civil hospital in Thane. When the police reached the house they found Priyanka dead and Premchandra was nowhere to be found.
Savitri sustained 75 per cent burn injuries to her body. Lying in her hospital bed Savitri provided her statement to the police at 10 pm. A police team arrested Premchandra from Thane at 1 am. "In her statement Savitri told us how Premchandra forcefully raped her 12-year daughter and then tried to kill her. Premchandra will be send to a hospital for medical tests and will be produced in court today," said Vijay More, assistant commissioner of police, Thane. |
