The Central Railway (CR) has decided to halt the Intercity Express that plies between Mumbai and Pune at the Shivajinagar station as well. Only trains coming from Mumbai will halt there for a few minutes, said Central Railway General Manager Subodh Jain.
"This way, the crowd getting down at Pune station will be reduced leading to less burdening of infrastructure. Several people also live in suburbs close to Shivajinagar and have to hire autos that charge higher fares from Pune station," jain said while addressing the media.
The decision was taken after railway authorities observed half the commuters in the trains coming from Mumbai would get off at the Shivajinagar station. The decision to halt the Intercity Express at Shivajinagar has been taken on an experimental basis.
The CR has also decided to increase the number of coaches on the several Pune and Mumbai trains over the next fortnight. Jain was in the city to inaugurate the automatic coach washing plant at Ghorpadi. |
