French village for sale for Rs 2.12 crore

By: Agencies
An entire French village complete with 19 buildings and a swimming pool is up for sale in France - for just £275,000 (Rs 2.12 crore). The extraordinary price of Courbefy, in the unspoilt Limousin region in the centre of the country, is attributed to a failing economy and the break-up of rural communities.

Buyers have until Friday to put in for the village, which is situated just under 30 miles from the city of Limoges, which has excellent rail and road links to Paris. All of Courbefy's buildings -- which are mainly made up of family homes and a village hall -- are available, together with the pool, stables and tennis courts.

They were once at the centre of a bustling community of around 200 people, but now stand deserted and unmaintained. Jean-Pierre Chateau, who lives in the nearby countryside said that it was 'heartbreaking' to see the place as a 'ghost village'. He said it once had a unique atmosphere with 'village festivals which were held right up until the 1960s'.

In November last year, the English village of Askham Richard complete with three farms, 14 residential properties and 54 acres of woodland, was put up for sale for £6.5 million (Rs 50 cr).
