Man held with 12 kg of party drug at Mumbai airport

Customs officials at Mumbai International airport have arrested a person trying to smuggle in 12 kilograms of drugs.

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai airport customs intercepted Chennai-resident Keru Paiya Nagnathan with 12 kilograms of Ketamine, which is a fast-acting anesthetic used in human and veterinary medicine, but has now become popular recreational drug among teens, on Monday night.

Nagnathan was scheduled to board Malaysian Airlines flight for Kaula Lumpur when Deputy Commisioner of Customs Sameer Wankhede intercepted him.

"We stopped him at the departures. During the screening twelve kilograms of ketamine was recovered from his luggage. The drug was concealed in small hand purses, doormats and into the false bottom of his suitcase," officials revealed.

Nagnathan is a frequent traveler and gets a good commission for the job.

"He had made more than 20 foreign trips in last few months. He is a hard core smuggler and during interrogation he accepted his crime without much delay," officials further revealed.

Nagnathan was booked under different provisions of NDPS act and is currently in custody of Mumbai Customs.
