MiD DAY had reported on the slums in its cover story yesterday, highlighting that the BMC, which is the body officially in charge of demolishing illegal structures, had turned a blind eye to these slums that had cropped on its very own property (Now, say hello to terrace slums, Oct 12).

S G Chitale, chief engineer of the SWM department, said, “I will personally visit the colony and study the problem and will decide accordingly what action should take.

Dilip Lande, MNS leader, said, “Though it is wrong to construct slums on terraces, the living conditions forced them to do so. The BMC, however, should provide them with proper houses. I will raise the issue in the upcoming Standing Committee meeting.”
