Impatience on the part of a truck driver on Wednesday morning resulted in a nine-foot -tall Ganesh falling on and seriously injuring two persons at Thane. The open truck left from Ulhasnagar with the idol belonging to the United Club in Kopri at 9.30 am. Two men were seated in the back to keep the statue stable during the trip.

The fall
The truck was soon approached by another truck, which decided to overtake the former. The driver of an Innova next to the truck tried to block him and in the process the two trucks collided. The Ganesha idol was damaged after falling on the two men inside.

The two injured men were rushed to hospital. Meanwhile, the idol was immersed, as per custom.

Thadaram Tolani, member of the club said, “This incident would not have happened if the driver of the truck had not tried overtaking the other vehicles. All club and society members are deeply hurt over the incident. The police have arrested the truck driver.”

Last year
A similar incident occurred last year in an immersion procession at Chinchpokli when a 12-foot-tall idol belonging to the Tejukaya Mansion Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal collapsed on the street.
