6-year-old girl abducted, molested in South Mumbai
The incident took place at 8.30 pm in Tardeo on Thursday
Barely three kilometres away from Shakti Mills, the abandoned mill where a female photojournalist on assignment was gang-raped on Thursday, parents of a six-year-old girl have claimed that an unknown person molested their daughter at 8.45 pm on the same day.
According to the family, an unidentified man allegedly abducted the minor, luring her with a chocolate, while she was on her way to the local grocery store, where her father worked.
The girl was found at the same spot nearly an hour later. The family said that when they located her, she was crying and appeared terrified. Stunned with the girl’s behaviour, they asked what had happened to her.
The girl narrated to them that a man took her and then tried molesting her. She also told the parents that the accused took her to a deserted area, where he stripped her and started fondling.
The parents immediately rushed to the Tardeo police station, where a complaint was registered. The police sent the girl to the civic-run Nair hospital for medical assessment.
“On examination we found that there were no external or internal injuries while determining any forcible penetration, thus ruling out the possibility of rape,” said a senior doctor from the hospital.
On the basis of the medical report and the story narrated by the parents, the police station registered a complaint of molestation and child abuse under sections 354 of the Inian Penal Code and Sections 8 and 12 of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
According to the police, the girl’s family recently shifted from their native place in Uttar Pradesh to Tardeo a month ago and are staying in a rented accomodation at present.
“The girl is terrified and is yet to come out of shock. She is continuously crying and finding it difficult to sleep because of the trauma she was subjected to. She is scared to venture out of the home and doesn’t want to leave her parents’ side,” said a police officer from Tardeo police station, on condition of anonymity.
