Rescued sex workers injured while trying to flee police van
They were being taken to a women's home; all were nabbed and given medical care
Three women, who were rescued from a prostitution racket in Pimpri, tried to run away from a moving police van while being taken to the rescue foundation home in Hadapsar. However, two of them sustained grievous injures and were nabbed by police personnel immediately.
The incident took place in Gosavi Vasti in Hadapsar on Saturday night. The three women have been booked under relevant sections of IPC. They were recently rescued by Pimpri police during a raid at an illegal prostitution den.
“All the rescued women were produced in court on Saturday, and the court had directed us to shift them to the rescue foundation in Hadapsar. While taking them there in the police van, the three women allegedly opened the rear door and jumped of.
But they lost their balance, fell on the road, and were injuries,” said sub-inspector RS Netke of Pimpri police station, who was given the responsibility to escort the women to the foundation.
Netke said that straight away the lady constables, who were accompanying the women to the rescue foundation home and were sitting next to the trio, asked for the vehicle to be stopped and the runaways were caught and rushed to the hospital. “Out of the three women, two have received grievous injuries and are receiving treatment,” said the sub-inspector.
