Man strangles 20-year-old after throwing him off terrace
The accused, a 21-year-old labourer at a construction site, was jealous that the victim was friendly with the woman he was dating
Unrequited love and jealousy can often be dangerous. Frustrated that the woman he loved was friendly with one of his colleagues at work, a man with the help of three of his friends murdered a 20-year-old man.
The main accused Lalji Gupta, a resident of Vijay Nagar, Andheri (East) and a labourer at an under-construction building in the same area, was angry with the victim Jitendra Saha for being friendly with the woman he was dating and in love with. Both of them worked at the same construction site and would often argue about the woman. Jealous that the woman was friendly with Saha, he hatched a plan to kill him with the help of his three friends, the police said.
According to the police, on Sunday night, Saha was playing cards on the terrace of the under-constructed building. Seizing the opportunity, Gupta went up and pushed Saha off the terrace. He then raced down the building to the body but was shocked to see that Saha was alive. Angry, he then strangled him to death.
Later, in an attempt to divert any police attention, he took a big tile from the site, applied some blood on it and placed it near the body. When the MIDC police found the body on Monday morning, they first registered a case of accidental death.
However, the post-mortem later revealed that Saha had been strangled, after which the police began murder investigations. During the course of investigation, the police detained several workers at the construction site and later zeroed in on Gupta. They arrested Gupta and three other accused on charges of murder. The accused have been remanded in police custody till February 26.
