The morcha began at Workers Commissionrate (Kamgar Ayuktalaya) in Shivaji Nagar where over 1,000 workers from government sectors participated in the march. The unions demanded a rise in wages due to ever-rising inflation.

However, road transport and medical services remained unaffected. Only all nationalised banks in the city were closed for two days.

“As it was a bank holiday on February 19 due to Shiv Jayanti, the banks were closed for three days. We loaded around Rs 3 crore in 40 ATM centres and I don’t think citizens would have faced any problems,” said a representative of Bank Employee Federation of India.
