According to the police, after receiving a tip-off that an externed criminal was visiting a barin Dahisar, constable Gajanan Mane visited Sheetal Bar, Dharkhadi, at 8 pm to arrest Anil Chougale, a history-sheeter and purported underworld gangster Chhota Rajan’s aide.

“When he reached the spot, Mane was assaulted by Chougale with a chopper. He sustained injuries to his finger,” said Senior Inspector Ansar Pirjade. Cops have launched a manhunt for Chougale, who at the time of going to the press was absconding. Mane was rushed to Bhagwati hospital where he received medical treatment before being discharged. According to a police source, Chougale is an aide of Lodhu Waingankar, who is a known associate of fugitive gangster Chhota Rajan.

On July 24 last year, MiD DAY had reported a similar attack on a Dahisar police officer by a history-sheeter, Suresh Joshi alias Surya, who is connected to Lodhu. Surya had attacked API Sunil Borkar. Incidentally, Borkar passed away due to a heart attack at his home yesterday night.
