Saw used to cut the body of the Bandra victim: Cops
The Bandra police investigating the murder of a woman whose severed body part was found in a gunny bag dumped off shore near the Reclamation, have found that the killer had used a carpenter's saw to cut part of her body
Officials have alerted their informers to find out whether they have news about a saw being sold from any hardware store across the city within two days of the body part’s discovery.
The police are also trying to find out whether any hardware store owner’s kin has gone missing before they recovered the part of the woman’s body.
“Since this is the only clue we have found so far, we are trying to explore it and investigate in this angle,” said an officer from the Bandra police station.
The police are trying to find out whether the killer had approached any hardware store and bought the saw to commit the crime.
Apart from this angle, the police officers have also called as many as 20 families in the past two days whose female kin between the ages of 20 to 35 years have gone missing, to come to the police station and identify the pieces of cloth found on part of the woman’s body.
“Although many people have turned up they are unable to identify the woman from just the photo of the waist and thighs. Even the clothes found are just rags which adds to their difficulty to recognise the victim,” added a crime branch officer.
The police are also making efforts to track families who have visited Mumbai from other parts of the county in search of a missing female family member in the past three to six months.
“It is possible that the victim had come to the city from other part of the country. We are now identifying the families who visited Mumbai in search of their kin,” added the officer.
Locals from Bandra Reclamation had informed the police control room of a stinking cement bag lying off the shore around 9.10 pm on Sunday. A mobile police van was rushed to the spot and the cops recovered a body part of an unidentified woman from the bag. The recovered body part was sent for autopsy to ascertain the identity of the victim.
