'Ripping apart clothes is not a security check'

Shocked: Riteish Deshmukhh had taken an American Airlines flight from Trinidad to Los Angeles via Miami. After the flight, he found that his jackets had been slashed

This is with reference to the story Who Ripped My Clothes? It is unfair of security officials to open up passengers' bags in their absence and damage their belongings. They cannot get away with the damages by simply citing 'security check' as the reason.

Airports should be held responsible for breaking flyers' baggage locks and they should pay for the damages done to the luggage. It is surprising that in spite of receiving more than 300 complaints every month, airport authorities have taken no action so far to stop this menace.

Riteish Deshmukh should take legal action against airport officials if they have indeed slashed his clothes and ripped his expensive jackets.

Riteish was on a world tour when the incident happened to him and he may have managed to replace his clothes. But everyone cannot afford to do the same.

We have heard of luggage getting misplaced at airports, but it was surprising to know that airport security officials also rip apart passengers' clothes and damage their expensive bags.

If airport officials have to make thorough security checks, they should give clear instructions. They must inform them whether to lock bags or not, what kind of locks should be used, and if they need to open up the bags, they should do it in the presence of the passengers.

I can imagine how Riteish Deshmukh must have felt seeing his clothes slashed apart. It's not about the cost of clothes, but about the protocol over security checks. In fact, I would like to file a PIL about this incident.
