Daylight robbery

Cheated: The reader says an autorickshaw driver charged him 60 per cent over the usual fare

I was heavily cheated by an autorickshaw driver recently. The driver had tampered his meter to such a large extent that it ran faster than my imagination. Normally, they charge us Rs 2 to Rs 5 extra.

But, this driver charged me 60 per cent more than the usual auto fare. I have observed that meters of auto rickshaws that we sit in at check nakas or outstation bus stops run at double the speed.

This is daylight robbery. I suggest the RTO conducts a random check.

I am sure the checks will surprise RTO officials, unless they are already aware of the malpractice and have been allowing drivers to cheat us.
What happened to the rule where all rickshaws had to install electronic meters?
