It's heartening that the State has issued a notification that 70 per cent of the seats in junior colleges must be filled by students staying in the vicinity.
This is a very laudable decision because students from the suburbs have to unnecessarily travel to the city and vice versa.
There are several cases where students move from eastern to western suburbs and the other way round. All this puts a strain on the students, the colleges (in terms of attendance), and the public transport system, etc.
