The photographs clicked by Sameer Abedi Milking them dry which show skinny cows victimised by the human greed and nastiness are shocking. It's so surprising that these inhumane practices are committed in the heart of the city, and the BMC is turning a blind eye.

The animals are abandoned on the streets, and often search for food in garbage dumps.

Our government should update the ineffective Prevention of Cruelty to Animal act of 1960. It's a shame to see the cow, which is worshipped in our country, being abused in such a cruel manner.

Besides milking these cows dry, the owners do not feed them properly. They are left to stray in and around Khar to feed on garbage dumps.

I pass by this road everyday and wish to point out that not only does this syndicate milk the cows dry, but also rents them to women, who sit with the cows outside temples with grass.

The animals are treated cruelly and only seen as a means of minting money.

The BMC should close this illegal dairy and rescue  the cows.
