Gone-guly se in-guly tak

Kuch kar dikhana hai: Sourav Ganguly has been selected for the first two Tests against Australia. file pic

Sourav Ganguly is one of the finest Indian cricket captains the country has ever produced.

I am really surprised why there is so much criticism and media hype over his selection for the first two Test matches against Australia.

His record last year was even better than Sachin Tendulkar and there is no reason to criticise him.

People also talk about his age when other players of the same age are part of the Indian team. Selection should be based on performance and Ganguly should be allowed to play for the country if he keeps performing well.

Youngsters should fight for their place in the team by pushing the senior players harder. I am sure Dada would show his dadagiri against the Aussies in the coming series and shut the critics' mouths.

Three cheers. Just go for it, Ganguly

Not-so-fab four

When Ganguly was dropped from the India team for the Irani Trophy the media went bonkers.

The most telling headline was Gone-guly. However,  most channels, which used the headline will have to take back their words. The wise men of Gotham, known as BCCI selectors, have thought otherwise.

They have decided that Gone-guly is not yet finished, but he is In-guly. Any discerning lover of  the game will realise that the so-called Fab four — Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman are hardly fabulous at present. Instead, they have become credulous.

They are neither match-fit nor in form. The cliché that form is temporary, but class is permanent is wearing thin.
