She's 20 something, pretty, talented and has oodles of the X-factor. But more importantly, she's a star. Having recently won the Indian Open Grand Prix, Singapore Open Super Series and the series in Jakarta; Saina Nehwal promises to repeat her irresistible form in future as well.
So, it's time for some celebration, isn't it? So shall we scream and declare that the current World No. 3 is soon going to win the coveted post of World No. 1 soon? Shall we pop the champagne and get her to do as many interviews for the electronic media? Give her a makeover? Get her to bag as many commercials so that she's on top of the list, raking in all the moolah. Get her to tweet. Plan a Bollywood flick featuring Deepika Padukone to play Saina?
If we actually go ahead and do all the things mentioned above, rest assured it's the perfect recipe for a disaster. A disaster revisited. Not long ago, we created a certain Sania Mirza. We tomtomed every victory of Mirza, now Sania Malik of course.
We made her the pin up glam doll. Our expectations shot up as her ATP rankings came down. We built this larger than life image of Sania. Please let's not repeat the same with Saina. Let her be. Let us realise that she's a player and let us leave her to that. Because the more we push her in the limelight, we will be the first to pull her down. If she is grounded, let us leave her to that. Our past experiences have shown we are infamous for making monsters out of humans.
Not another one. Apart from all the kudos and wishes that we can extend; let's hope she continues to make the country proud. Check for her meteoric growth in her career not in her personal life. Saina is a star. Let's not make her a falling star. Wishing Saina the very best for all her future trophies. Cheers!
