  • As they say records are meant to be.. Sachin Tendulkar became the only batsman to score 100 centuries in the history of cricket on 16 March 2012. Tendulkar’s 114 against Bangladesh also made him the third oldest player to score an ODI hundred. (Pic/ AFP)
  • Alastair Cook Alastair Cook broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the youngest batsman to score 7, 000 Test runs in his match against India at Kolkata. In that very game, he also created  records as first English batsman to score 23 Test centuries and the first captain ever to hit 5 consecutive Test centuries. (Pic/ AFP)
  • Michael Clarke Michael Clarke set the record for the only batsman in history to score 4 Test double centuries in a calendar year (329*, 259*, 230, 210). (Pic/ AFP)
  • Zimbabwe Zimbabwe were bowled out twice in a single day by New Zealand (51 and 143) in a Test match on 28 Jan 2012. This is the second time Zimbabwe were all out twice, the first also being against New Zealand. Chris Martin took a combined of 8/ 31. (Pic/ AFP)
  • Ravichandra Ashwin R Ashwin achieved a combined record 12/85 (6/31 and 6/54) in a Test match against New Zealand on 27 Aug 2012.  He thus, became the most successful Indian bowler against NZ also became the fastest Indian to reach 50 Test wickets.
  • Abul Hasan Abul Hasan of Bangladesh scored 113 on his Test debut on 21 Nov 2012. In doing so, he broke a 110-year old record of a no. 10 batsman scoring a Test debut century (The previous being Australia’s Reggie Duff who scored 104 runs). (Pic/ AFP)

  • Richard Levi Richard Levi hit the fastest century in T20I coming off just 45 balls in a game against New Zealand on 19 Feb 2012. (AFP)

  • Ravindra Jadeja Ravindra Jadeja became the only Indian batsman to score two first-class triple centuries in a single season. In doing so he also became the first Indian batsman to hit three triple centuries.
  • Lionel Messi Lionel Messi broke Gerd Mueller’s 40-year-old record of most goals scored in a calendar year reaching 86 goals (and counting) during his game against Real Betis. Messi also created an all-time record for most goals scored per season surpassing Pele. (Pic/ AFP)
