Go Mayo was the chanting that echoed in NCPA on Friday, March 23, as Mumbai saw an unusual performance given by the young boys of the prestigious Mayo College of Ajmer. The unusual part was that the 46 boys, who were part of the performing brass band, were from different age groups, some being as young as 13 years old. The performing band was a mix of two bands -- Mayo College Fusion Band and Mayo Brass Band. The event was organised by Mayo College Alumni (Mumbai) Charity Trust. The trust has been formed by the alumni of the school that resides in Mumbai. The trust organises annual charity events like the one on Friday. The list of Mayo College Alumni includes glorious names like Bobby Deol, Tinu Anand, Vivek Oberoi as well as some well-known politicians like Jaswant Singh and K Natwar Singh. One of the best commentators in the history of Indian cricket, Charu Sharma is also a proud Mayo Alumnus. He played the funny host for the evening. The Mayo College Alumni (Mumbai) Charity Trust supports two charities for underprivileged children -- Each One Teach One and Akanksha. The event saw the participation of around 50 underprivileged children from each of these charities. Later, snack packets were also sponsored by the trust. The kids were encouraged by the musical duo Vishal and Shekhar to join them on the stage and groove to their songs. The children’s faces were aglow with happiness by the end of the electric evening. |
