Sonam Kapoor looks good in this Anamika Khanna gold and white sari with a trailing jacket. Even the dramatic eye make-up and hairdo are impressive, but the over sized kundan nose ring and the lip shade a bit too dark spoil the otherwise perfect Indian get-up. Pic/AFP

Looks like Vidya preferred to appear older than her actual age in this saree. By now the blouse looks ostentatiously cliched. The pearl necklace and the hairdo gives her a typical Hindi film's 'rajmata' look. She could have opted for a better eye make-up and lip colour. Disappoint. Pic/AFP

This one is by far the most decent outfit of Vidya at Cannes. A visual relief from repeated closed-neck blouses, perfectly paired accessories, a loose yet neat up-do just do the trick. This is one of those 'saree-looks' of Vidya that hardly fails to impress. Pic/AFP

What sort of a gharara is this? If ever a combination of black and white can go miserably wrong, it's this! An outfit that can beautifully accentuate the features of a woman, this one does no justice. Forget the rest, the dupatta could have been carried in a much better way, we think. Pic/AFP

The nation felt proud when Vidya Balan was announced to be one of the jury members at the 66th edition of Cannes with renowned names like Nicole Kidman, Ang Lee and jury president Steven Spielberg. But looks like the sentiment was just limited to that and none of her outfits on the red carpet could live up to it. Her first appearance in maroon coloured Sabyasachi lehenga was a disappointment. We knew Vidya's style mantra to Cannes was to be Indian, but where in India do we wear outfits like these? The lehenga and the dupatta could have looked much better with a differently styled blouse, don't you think? Pic/AFP
