  • 1992 Top-scored with an unbeaten 54 in a total of 216 for seven in 49 overs. He hit just three fours in his 62-ball innings on a wicket where the ball kept low. Later on, he took the vital wicket of Aamer Sohail (caught by K Srikkanth for 62) and ended up getting the man of the match award.
  • 1996 “Tendulkar’s 31 was a trifle by his standards.” said the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. True, but he contributed to a good opening stand of 90 which was needed. Like in Sydney, 1992, he hit the boundary ropes thrice. When captain Azhar gave him the ball, he had figures of 5-0-25-0.
  • 1999 India needed a victory in Old Trafford to score a hat-trick of World Cup wins against Pakistan. Tendulkar opened the innings with S Ramesh and made 45 off 65 balls with five hits to the fence as India scored 227. Tendulkar’s catch helped dismiss Moin Khan before Pak were bowled out for 180.
  • 2003 India were not the best side when it came to chasing totals but Sachin Tendulkar accepted the challenge and blasted Shoaib Akhtar and Co to all parts of Super Sport Park in Centurion to score a masterly 98. Had it not been for an attack of cramps, Tendulkar would have scored his first WC ton.
  • 2011 Tendulkar was made to wait for his century of international centuries. After four reprieves - on 27, 45, 70 and 81 - he was out for 85. He also had an LBW decision over-turned. But he soldiered on manfully on a pitch which was not easy for batters. He earned yet another man of the match award.
