Election campaign managers in Pune are busy trying to patch up differences within party ranks as both rival alliances witnessed infighting over selection of candidates for the Pune Lok Sabha seat.
In the first phase of campaigning for this seat, which goes to the polls on April 23, leaders of both the alliances Cong-NCP and the Shiv Sena-BJP made vigorous efforts to quell the infighting.

Who will Pune choose? Anil Shirole from the BJP or Suresh Kalmadi from Congress? | Congress managed to dissuade Anantrao Gadgil from filing his nomination as an independent, in opposition to the renomination of sitting MP Suresh Kalmadi.
For the BJP, the candidature of Anil Shirole too had led to initial hiccups. Munde was disappointed with the party for denying a ticket to Poonam Mahajan.
But now, Vinod Tawde, the state BJP's general secretary, has said Shirole is enjoying full support of the party.
After settling pre-seat adjustment discomfort with the BJP, Sena workers too were seen participating in Shirole's campaign.
Kalmadi's woes were addressed by NCP president Sharad Pawar with an appeal to party workers to adhere to "alliance ethics" by leaving no stone unturned to ensure Kalmadi's victory. Ankush Kakde, an NCP spokesperson, said yesterday that the NCP machinery was now being "galvanised" for Kalmadi's win. |
