Generations of people in this Lok Sabha constituency have seen Priyanka Gandhi grow from a little girl, when she used to accompany her father, into a charismatic leader who is now canvassing for her brother.

But she never forgets to invoke her father's name. "Serving you is the religion of Rahul Gandhi. By serving you we will feel that he is serving our father (Rajiv Gandhi)," she told an election rally, adding that "my family will always remain indebted to you."

Rajiv Gandhi was elected to Lok Sabha thrice in a row from Amethi since 1984. The seat was represented by his widow Sonia Gandhi in 1999. Rahul himself was elected from here in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls. "Earlier, I used to come along with my father Rajivji here," she said and asked if she could hope the people of Amethi would ensure Rahul's victory when the constituency goes to poll on April 23.

The villagers shouted in unison: "With a margin of five lakh votes." The Amethi constituency has over 14 lakh voters. Priyanka said there are only few leaders like him who are only concerned for the people and not of their own
